“My journey toward sustainability began in Yilan,” says Chairman Mao-Nan Chien. Years ago, the people of Yilan made the bold decision to reject a major industrial complex (Sixth Naphtha Cracking Project), sacrificing thousands of jobs to preserve their pristine homeland. That courageous choice profoundly shaped Chairman Chien’s lifelong commitment to environmental sustainability.

In the 1970s, his company, Hsin Hwa Wool Textile, was one of the first in the industry to install wastewater treatment systems to address dyeing pollution, while also implementing factory-wide energy-saving policies. For him, protecting the environment is not a choice, but a responsibility. Over time, he expanded from wool textiles into land development and biotechnology—dedicating himself to clean air technologies and antimicrobial solutions, helping build healthy, sustainable living environments.

Now serving as the Chairman of the Taiwan Ecological Sustainability Development Association, he brings six decades of business experience to lead initiatives in green energy and environmental technology. His goal is to build a platform for sustainability advocacy, sharing the vision across sectors and inspiring collective action.

Together, we can safeguard this beautiful land and create a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come.

Mao-Nan Chien
