信義房屋倫理長楊百川教授，是全台唯一擔任「倫理長」一職的企業高層，自2014年起擔任信義房屋倫理長，致力於在企業中推動以人為本的倫理治理。在此次分享中，楊教授以「只有改變教育，才能改變世界」為起點，呼應羅麥瑞修女與羅家強校長的理念，帶領我們重新思考ESG在企業實踐中的真義與挑戰。
楊教授以稻盛和夫的成功方程式為引，強調「動機純正」與「價值觀正確」將決定企業推動ESG的真正力量。他指出，從過往無限擴張經濟的模式，到今日因應氣候危機與社會不平等所發展出的ESG趨勢，其背後反映的是人類對「貪婪」的反省，以及對資源濫用的回應。
他認為，單從「分配」出發理解ESG是不足的，應從全球人口增加、地球資源有限的宏觀角度來思考，從個人、企業、社會乃至全球層次同步探討永續的可能。特別是聯合國SDGs第一項目標——消除貧窮，背後隱含的是經濟兩極化對碳排與資源耗損的深遠影響。
楊教授強調：「若社會多數人無法過上基本溫飽的生活，環境永續將難以落實。」因此，ESG的核心價值應是「公平對待所有利害關係人」。只有企業內部決策與文化真正實踐這個信念，ESG才不會淪為表面口號，而是驅動真正改變的力量。
在分享最後，楊教授邀請每一位參與者都成為推動改變的實踐者，將倫理思維內化於行動，從教育出發，從人出發，開啟一場關於未來世界的深度對話與實踐。

Professor Bai-Chuan Yang, Chief Ethics Officer at Sinyi Realty, is the only person in Taiwan to hold such a title. Since 2014, he has championed human-centered corporate ethics within the company. In this talk, Professor Yang echoed the message of Sister Rosemary and Principal Lo: “Only by changing education can we change the world,” inviting us to rethink the real essence and challenges of ESG implementation in business.
Referencing the success equation by Kazuo Inamori, he emphasized that “pure motives” and “correct values” determine the true power of ESG. He reflected on the evolution from the relentless expansion of global capitalism to today’s ESG movement, born out of introspection on human greed and environmental exploitation.
He stressed that ESG cannot merely be understood in terms of redistribution; instead, we must take a holistic view considering population growth, resource limitations, and sustainability at personal, corporate, societal, and global levels. Highlighting the UN’s first SDG—eliminating poverty—he explained how inequality in wealth leads to increased resource depletion and carbon emissions.
Professor Yang pointed out that if people cannot even meet basic needs, they are unlikely to care about environmental sustainability. Therefore, the heart of ESG lies in “fairness toward all stakeholders.” Only when corporate decisions and culture embody this value will ESG become more than a slogan—it will be a force for genuine transformation.
He concluded by encouraging each attendee to be a change-maker: to internalize ethical thinking into action, to start with education, to start with people, and to open a dialogue about shaping a more sustainable future.
